What you need to know
Use a desktop browser that offers screen capture, such as Chrome or Edge, and open ZeroCast over HTTPS. The viewer needs a browser with WebRTC video playback. You must actively choose what to share; opening the website alone cannot expose your screen. A phone can watch but cannot send its whole screen through this workflow.
Step-by-step setup
Prepare the content
Open the document or app you want to show. Close private notifications and unrelated windows; sharing one window limits what the viewer sees.
Open the casting page
Choose Start sharing my screen. The browser opens its capture picker; select a screen, window or tab and confirm. Available choices and shared audio depend on the browser and operating system.
Connect the viewer
Copy the viewing link from the room and send it through your existing chat. The other person opens it without signing up; leave the sharing page open.
Finish the session
Use Stop sharing in ZeroCast or the browser's sharing control. Check that sharing has stopped before switching to sensitive work.
Compatibility and troubleshooting
If no picker appears, check that you are on a computer rather than a mobile browser. If macOS denies capture, allow screen recording for the browser in system settings, then reopen the browser if prompted. If video does not arrive, keep both pages open, retry the connection and try another permitted network. Corporate policy can block capture or WebRTC even with relay fallback.
Privacy and session limits
Screen media is encrypted during transport and is not stored by ZeroCast. A direct connection is attempted first; a TURN relay can forward encrypted packets when needed. Treat the room link as access to the session. Guests have 15 casting minutes per day; registered Free users have 40, including earlier guest usage. Free supports one viewer and 1080p with a watermark.
When this is useful
- ✓ Show a prospect a working product during an existing call.
- ✓ Review a spreadsheet with one colleague who cannot install software.
- ✓ Show a desktop application to someone watching on a phone or tablet.
Browser sharing or a meeting app?
Browser sharing is useful when you only need to show a screen and can send a link through an existing conversation. There is no installation step, but browser permissions and network policy still apply.
A meeting platform may be a better fit for scheduled group calls or workflows that require meeting administration. A remote desktop application is needed if the other person must operate your computer; ZeroCast shares the view and does not provide remote mouse or keyboard control.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a browser extension?
No. Screen capture uses the desktop browser's built-in permission picker. The viewer opens a normal web link.
Can I share without creating an account?
Yes, normal casting works as a guest within the daily guest allowance. Viewing does not require an account. Creating remote-support invitations requires the support person to sign in.
Can the viewer see another window when I switch apps?
If you share the entire screen, visible windows and notifications can be seen. Share a single window or tab when you want to restrict the content, and check the preview before continuing.
